Colonic Irrigation
Colonic irrigation is a procedure for removing waste and toxins from the bowel. It is also known as colonic hydrotherapy. It can help remove traces of faeces and other waste products and identify worms or parasites living in your gut, which some people believe can poison the body if allowed to remain.
Colonic irrigation can help with conditions including bloating, flatulence, diarrhoea, irritable bowel syndrome, fatigue, allergies, indigestion, constipation, multiple sclerosis, and back pain.
There is no special preparation for colonic irrigation, but large meals and lots to drink are not advised. You will talk to the therapist and answer questions about your medical history and then you will have a brief rectal examination before the procedure begins.
Colonic irrigation is carried out by our qualified nurse. You lie on your side on the table and warm water is gently passed into your bowel through a tube inserted in your rectum. This water circulates through your colon and encourages your bowel to empty itself. Waste products are then passed out of the body through the tube.
After about 10 minutes, you lie on your back while the therapist gently massages your abdomen to help the process along. The whole procedure takes about 40 to 45 minutes and is carried out with great care and dignity.
