Henna and Mendhi
The trend in all types of body art has rocketed recently and shows no sign of slowing down. Decorating the body with body painting can be traced back to ancient times when they played an essential role in tribal beauty and adornment. The body is the ultimate canvas for self-expression.
About Henna or Mendhi
From the Queen of Sheba to the Artist Formerly known as Prince, decorating the body with Henna (known as mendhi) continues to appeal with it's power to beautify and make a statement. There has been a surge of interest from Western countries in the last few years with Hollywood's hottest property using Henna. Mendhi is the 5,000 year old Indian art of painting the body from the crushed leaves of the Henna plant.
What happens?
Once you have chosen your design, oil is applied to the selected area. Then the design is drawn on with Henna paste, applied through a plastic bag. A dab of lemon-juice and sugar mixture helps it set. When applied the Henna paste is always black, but the resulting pattern with natural Henna varies from light orange to dark brown.
How long does it last?
The dye lingers anywhere from two to 12 weeks on skin, depending upon its reaction with your skin and the care taken to preserve the design. Generally mendhi lasts one to four weeks. The less exposure to soap and water or rubbing, the longer your design will last.
Potential risks?
Henna paint is a herbal compound and there are no known reactions – it's one of the safest cosmetics ever used. We will test it first on the patch of skin behind your ear and watch for any allergic reaction.
